Recent criticism of the Karen slur has centered around its misogynistic nature. But these names have actually been used for many years to disparage real life women.

These videos can be incredibly humorous, yet they also pose important questions about what it means to be Karen. They serve as a poignant reminder of what being white woman in America is like–particularly when it comes to class prejudice.

1. The Belly Touch

The belly touch, or the ability to stroke a pregnant woman’s growing bump, is an amazing achievement of human technology. Not only does it allow for close connection with your unborn child during this crucial stage, but it also helps relieve discomfort caused by an enlarged abdomen and reduce stress levels. Whether you’re massaging it to improve circulation or just trying to get some endorphins flowing, there are plenty of ways to make this feel natural and even special.

Recent research published in Science by Dr. Alan Lomax demonstrates that strokes to a woman’s abdomen are not just an illusion or trick of the eye; rather, this instinctual behavior has beneficial effects for both you and your child.

2. The ATM

When money is tight, certain tasks must be undertaken – like visiting an ATM. And that’s where Karen comes into play: whenever Jack needs cash, she is the first person he turns to for assistance. Plus, if she feels particularly wise, Karen may provide him with advice on becoming a better father.

The Karen meme is a term for middle-aged white women who exhibit behaviors derived from privilege and often offensive to those they interact with (such as being anti-vaccination, demanding to speak to service industry workers, and engaging in racist microaggressions). While this trend has been associated with Baby Boomers since 2017, it gained wider acceptance during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 along with protests for racial justice.

The term “Karen” was once only applied to middle-aged white women who were rude or aggressive, but has now come to represent any woman who exhibits these characteristics. Karens can be found online, in stores, at work or public spaces where their actions may be called out by others and sometimes arrested or sued for them. Yet despite its widespread usage it remains uncertain what this term actually signifies or why it has become so popular.

3. The Dance Lesson

The dance lesson is taken from a painting by French artist Edgar Degas that is currently displayed at the National Gallery of Art. This image is part of a series that Degas began around 1879 and is one of his most renowned works.

This painting depicts a ballet scene and is framed by a window. Like most of the paintings in this series, it is composed with an deceptively straightforward horizontal format that gives it a panoramic quality.

This painting features a seated figure at the center of the frame, along with a ballet dancer and open violin case. Figures taken from various other paintings have been artistically arranged to give it the illusion that these dancers are in rehearsal.

This exercise is an ideal way to teach students about body movement and spatial patterns. They will gain awareness of their own movement patterns in space, helping them recall where they are moving within it. This is an accessible exercise that all students can do.

This activity can be tailored for any age group, but especially kindergarten or first grade students. Your young learners will love the challenge of learning a new dance, and you’ll have loads of fun watching them perform!

Another way to incorporate dance into your class is by including a brief dance break in the curriculum. This can be an effective way to engage students and give them a break from desk work.

Teaching about movement patterns, shapes, and different cultural dance styles can be a great way to reinforce concepts! Try adding in a two minute dance break during your next lesson so that students have time to improvise!

4. The Wedding

Recently, a video posted to TikTok by “wedding crasher Karen” showcases her loud lawnmowing during the bride’s ceremony. The clip has garnered over 300,000 views on the app and caused outrage in some of its comments.

TikTok has given internet users a way to shame ‘Karens’ by recording their outrageous outbursts on camera. From complaining about someone else’s Tigger flag to creating chaos at Victoria’s Secret stores, there have been no shortage of viral videos featuring these notorious women.

But this one may be the most memorable yet, thanks to its sheer audacity and hilarious results. A user named vampyyric posted a video on June 11th 2022 which shows an “unhappy” wedding neighbor mowing her lawn while the newlyweds were exchanging vows and walking down the aisle.

In the clip, a woman can be seen running her weed eater across the street as she mows. She does so loudly that both the groom and guests cannot hear what they are sharing in vows. A snarky commentator on TikTok (under the username vampyyric) claimed she tried to tell the woman to stop but she was “unkind,” continuing to mow anyway.

Thankfully, the woman eventually stopped harassing him; however, her behavior was so offensive that the video went viral. Other users expressed their displeasure in the comments section and even offered suggestions for revenge: such as ringing her doorbell at 3 AM or blasting music into the night.
