One way to combat racism in the workplace is through town halls and other open discussions about race. While these can be beneficial, they should not be your sole method for combatting it.

Third, ensure all employees understand the significance of treating each other with respect. This is especially pertinent for people of color, indigenous people, and individuals with disabilities or different abilities than other employees.
Finally, ensure all employees understand that passing Karen jokes or other social media posts around the workplace is not permitted. This goes especially for any Karen jokes which could be seen as racist or based on skin color – an integral element of every Karen joke.
Recent research revealed that 80% of those who saw Karen jokes on social media said they found them offensive. It’s evident that many find these types of jokes offensive, raising the possibility that such comments will be the subject of harassment lawsuits in court.
Though it is unlikely that these types of jokes will lead to harassment claims, they can still be interpreted as evidence that your business operates in an hostile work environment. Karen jokes are also seen as ageist and can be perceived as sexist acts; this puts you at risk if you have employees of different ages in your workforce – particularly white and/or middle aged employees.

Some criticize the Karen video trend as being fuelled by an outdated myth of female hysteria that still resonates in society, trivializing the anger felt by a disenfranchised white working class. On the other hand, others contend that these videos and memes are misogynistic, sexist, and aggressively shame women who may be feeling stressed or struggling emotionally.
Denise Dudley, an author and workplace consultant from San Luis Obispo, Calif., noted that women often feel pressured to suppress their emotions by society; thus it may be hard for them to get angry. Conversely, some men have been taught that strength and resolve make them untouchable and don’t need to cry.
It’s understandable for white people to want to call a police officer on someone of color regardless of what they are doing or who they are. But they should do so within the framework of their anti-harassment policies and listen attentively to any complaints the person may have about their actions before taking appropriate action.
